Picking titles for your book club is tough–there are so many to choose from! Here is what my book club came up with for this past season (school year 2025-26). Some of these were better than others, but it never hurts to get book club recommendations. See if these might be right for you!

The Wedding People: heartbroken woman ends up in hotel overtaken by a wedding party and finds hope in their optimism.
*The Frozen River: a midwife in colonial Maine solves a crime using her knowledge of biology.
The Marthaβs Vineyard Beach and Book Club: a group of local women have their lives upended when soldiers come to train on their island during WWII.
The Art Thief: (not pictured): the non-fiction account of the most prolific art thief, ever.
**The Lion Women of Tehran: a lifelong friendship is followed through pre-Shah, Shah, and the Islamic Revolution eras in Iran.
The Poppy Fields: What if people experiencing grief could sleep it offβbut risk forgetting their loved one?
*The Stolen Life of Colette Marceau: a Frenchwoman who lived through the Nazi invasion solves the mystery of what happened to her family with the help of a jewel thief.
Some of these books were better than others, but they were different, brought us to new times and places, and left us with things to talk about.
My personal favorites were The Frozen River, The Lion Women of Tehran, and The Stolen Life of Colette Marceau. Of these, The Lion Women of Tehran was a particular standout. The reason I liked it is because so much of Iran is hidden to me as an American, and the Iranian Revolution took place before I was born. Therefore, my understanding of life there is limited, and yet this book depicted a time and place at odds with my stereotypes. It isn’t political, but the background politics absolutely play a huge role in the women’s lives. It was about people, and the story of these women sucked me in. It’s also topical given the current climate, so it makes for robust discussion too.
Would love to hear if you’ve read any of these and what you thought! I’m also up for your book club recommendations too. Share in the comments.
